Who we are
About the RPTO Association
The national body uniting Remote Pilot Training Organisations across India — setting standards, recognising competence and building a connected community.
Purpose
Mission & vision
One professional framework for remote pilot training — built on standards, trust and a strong safety culture.
Our mission
Standardise and elevate remote pilot training
Unite Remote Pilot Training Organisations under one professional framework — setting consistent standards, driving verifiable certification, and representing training providers with a common voice.
Our vision
A safe, skilled and trusted drone workforce
A remote-pilot community whose competence and conduct are recognised across India's drone economy — from agriculture and surveying to logistics, energy and public safety.
Why we exist
The case for a national association
Independent training organisations needed shared standards, a collective voice and a way to make competence verifiable. The association brings these together.
Fragmented standards
Training quality varied widely between providers. The association gives organisations a shared, documented baseline to train and assess against.
No collective voice
Independent academies had little representation in industry and policy conversations. We convene them so the sector speaks with one informed voice.
Trust and verification
Employers struggled to validate credentials. We make membership and certification tamper-evident and verifiable online.
A growing community
Pilots, instructors and operators needed a place to learn, network and grow. We build that community through events, committees and knowledge sharing.
What we set out to do
Our objectives
Concrete commitments that guide everything the association does for members and the wider sector.
Set training standards
Develop and maintain a common code of practice, curriculum guidance and assessment benchmarks for member training organisations.
Recognise competence
Issue verifiable membership and certification that employers and clients can trust and validate instantly.
Build capability
Support instructor development, continuing education and skill pathways for remote pilots across sectors.
Represent the sector
Provide a credible, collective voice for training organisations in industry forums and consultations.
Share knowledge
Curate SOPs, safety guidance, advisories and reference material in an accessible knowledge library.
Promote safety
Champion a strong safety culture and responsible operations as the foundation of every training programme.
Where we fit
Our role in the drone & RPTO ecosystem
We sit between training organisations, the professionals they train and the industry that hires them — connecting all three around a shared standard.
Training organisations
We give RPTOs a common standard, peer network and recognised membership that signals quality to learners and employers.
Pilots & instructors
We support remote pilots and trainers with credentials, continuing education and a professional community to grow within.
Industry & employers
We help operators and hiring organisations find verifiably trained talent and engage with a representative sector body.
How we raise the bar
Training standards & safety
A documented baseline that member organisations train and assess against — with safety as the foundation.
Common code of practice
A shared baseline for how member organisations plan, deliver and assess remote pilot training.
Competency-based assessment
Emphasis on demonstrated skill and sound judgement, not just attendance — assessed against documented criteria.
Instructor quality
Guidance on instructor experience, currency and conduct so learners are taught by capable professionals.
Safety-first operations
Risk assessment, airspace awareness and standard operating procedures embedded throughout training.
Records & verification
Transparent, verifiable records of membership and certification that resist tampering and fraud.
Continuous improvement
Standards reviewed by sector committees as technology, operations and best practice evolve.
Working with the framework
Regulatory alignment
We do not issue government licences or claim official accreditation. Instead, our standards are designed to align with industry best practice and to support members' own compliance.
Aligned with industry best practice
Our standards are designed to align with widely accepted aviation training and safety best practice.
Supports regulatory compliance
We help member organisations build processes that support their own regulatory compliance obligations.
Responsive to change
We monitor developments in drone policy and operations and update guidance for members as the landscape evolves.
Neutral statement of intent — not a claim of official DGCA or government recognition.
How we are run
Governance
An elected council, sector committees and regional chapters set policy with transparency and accountability.
- Elected governing council sets direction and policy
- Sector committees develop standards and curriculum
- Regional chapters represent members locally
